Chip Off The Block

Chip Off The Block began with a sack of overlooked potatoes on the Montgomery farm in Somerset in 2013. What started as an idea between John and Archie at their kitchen table became a patched-up ice cream van, a handful of friends and a simple mission: do one thing well and enjoy the ride. Triple-cooked chips, mixed thoroughly through huge amounts of Montgomery cheddar and Ogleshield, were served at festivals across the UK. Built on graft, goodwill and learning on the fly, the van still rolls on, slow, stubborn but she's still going.

Over the years, we’ve been part of some of the UK’s greatest festivals, from Secret Garden Party to Glastonbury, Reading to Port Eliot.

The Ogle Shield

In 2019, The Ogle Shield came into being. Born from the same farm, friendships and curiosity, it was our way of showcasing Montgomery cheese in a different form. We built the stall by hand using reclaimed materials found on the farm, inspired by old British pubs, and kept the menu deliberately simple: sourdough toasties filled with our trusty duo of Montgomery cheddar and Ogleshield, finished with either red onion chutney or Marmite. It marked the beginning of something familiar yet new; a natural next chapter in the same long-running adventure. Somehow, it led us to Amsterdam, where MONTY’S was born.

MONTY’S

In 2024, MONTY’S grew from a desire to give the adventure a permanent home. After years on the road, we wanted a place that felt warm, familiar, grounded and somewhere the energy of the festivals could live on. Built by the same hands and shaped by our roots in Somerset and the Montgomery family, MONTY’S brings together the cheese, the spirit and the dream that started 13 years ago. It’s a small shop with a long story behind it, inspired by farms, festivals and friendships, finished in Amsterdam as a place to sit, eat and feel at home.

What happens next? Time will tell.
